Larry Swedroe, Author, Speaker, Chief Research Officer

Larry Swedroe is a prolific author and speaker dedicated to educating investors on the benefits of evidence-based investing. Besides referencing him often, it’s my pleasure to introduce him to you as one of our Truth Tellers.

Larry was among the first authors to publish a book that explained the science of investing in layman’s terms, The Only Guide to a Winning Investment Strategy You’ll Ever Need.  He has authored or co-authored 15 other books including, What Wall Street Doesn’t Want You to Know (2001), The Incredible Shrinking Alpha (2015 and 2020 with Andrew Berkin), Your Complete Guide to a Successful and Secure Retirement (2018 and 2020 with Kevin Grogan), and Your Essential Guide to Sustainable Investing (2022 with Sam Adams).

Larry offers you a free excerpt from his book, The Complete Guide to a Successful & Secure Retirement. It is one of the best books on planning for retirement. Take a look at the table of contents. When I spoke recently to the Bainbridge senior center folks, the publisher allowed us to link to Chapter 20, “The Threat Of Elder Financial Abuse.” While it might not be the #1 topic on your mind, it is a great example of the kind depth Larry gives a topic.

Since 1996, Larry has been Chief Research Officer for Buckingham Wealth Partners, a Registered Investment Advisor firm in St. Louis, Mo. and the BAM ALLIANCE. He holds an MBA in finance and investment from New York University and a bachelor’s degree in finance from Baruch College.

He contributes regularly to multiple national outlets, including Advisor Perspectives, The Evidence-Based Investor, Journal of Investing, AAII Journal, Personal Financial Planning Monthly, Journal of Indexing and ETF.com. He has appeared on national television shows airing on NBC, CNBC, CNN and Bloomberg Personal Finance.

Before joining Buckingham, Larry was vice chairman of Prudential Home Mortgage. He has held positions at Citicorp as senior vice president and regional treasurer, responsible for treasury, foreign exchange and investment banking activities, including risk management strategies.

Whenever I want to dig deeper into an investment question, I usually start my search with Larry’s name and the topic. Give it a try.
