Paul accepts The “Real Investing Trailblazer Award,” from Tom Cock and Don McDonald of Vestory Investment Advisory and the Real Investing radio show, at a recent event in Washington State, honoring him as as “one of the country’s leading advocates for real investors.”

Dear Friends,

I hope you’re taking time to enjoy the summer! In less than a month, Labor Day will be past. We have lots of work to do between now and then as my team and I will release a total redesign of our website plus the premier of my 401(k) Plan Recommendations for 100 Top U.S. Companies and the U.S. Government employees Thrift Saving Plan.

We’ll be making this company-specific information available free of charge to help you make the most of your 401(k) plan. This will be announced through this newsletter and myMarketWatch articles. When the list of companies is available, I hope you will review it to see if any of your family or friends might appreciate the recommendations and encourage them to sign up to receive this bi-monthly newsletter. Over the next few years, with your help, we hope to expand the list to 500 plans.
Upcoming Event – Sept. 20, 9:45am to 12:45pm
I will be presenting “Live It Up Without Outliving Your Money” to the Puget Sound chapter of the American Association of Individual Investors (AAII) on Mercer Island. This 3-hour seminar is based on new research covering asset-class selection, asset allocation, distributions, and how to avoid the investment mistakes common to both pre-retired and retired investors.
As Warren Buffet says, “You only have to do a very few things right in your life, so long as you don’t do too many things wrong.” I will offer the few right things that investors should do, as well as the wrong things that keep you from meeting your financial goals. I’ll conclude with a discussion of buy-and-hold vs. market timing and why most investors fail at both.
The meeting is open to the public. This chapter does not charge a fixed fee but accepts contributions of whatever amount you wish to make. Seating is limited and pre-registration suggested. Get more information and pre-register here.Real Investing Trailblazer Award
On Aug. 1, Tom Cock and his colleague Don McDonald honored me with their first “Real Investing Trailblazer Award,” as “one of the country’s leading advocates for real investors.” The award was presented at a party and educational event for the clients of their investment management firm and radio listeners at “Talking Real Money“.
Tom worked with me at Merriman, for over a decade. Before joining the company he had a career in radio and TV. Tom is responsible for getting me started on the radio, as well as podcasting. We always had fun working together and I’m very pleased for his success as an investment manager. He is a dear friend, so I must assume the Trailblazer award is a bit biased, but I appreciate it all the same.
Tune-in On August 30
I will be joining Tom and Don on their radio show from 10 a.m. to noon on KOMO AM 1000 in Seattle. If you have a question, please join us on air. I used to do a weekly radio show with these guys so I know it’s going to be fun for me and, hopefully, helpful for you.To your success,
Paul
